2008 not sending reports to email

Post by Coastcard » 21 Feb 2008, 08:41

I have just upgraded from V11 to 2008. We send our delivery notes by email, but when I go to the email function in the dropdown, it wants to save the delivery note as a file (which it does in either HTML or PDF) and then sometimes crashes!

The function works fine in v11 (on the same computer) and in the demo database for 2008. I have also tried others of the pre supplied repot formats with the same result.

Secondly, my delivery note which I imported from v11, when I preview in Report Designer says that the Data Source is not found. How do I specify the data source.

Finally, I have not downloaded the hotfixes from Sage as I have just bought the software and when I run the Check for Internet updates from the help menu, it says I am on the latest version (The hotfix version seems to bear no relation to the version number). Is this correct?

Wow... isn't Sage fun! Any help appreciated.

there are several issues it could be and I think we need to narrow things down.

The data source not found thing sounds like an issue with the one layout.

As everything works with the demodata my thought is that this could be a user issue.

Create a new user, log in as that user and have a go and see if things change.

Otherwise I think it is going to be a data issue, so try this first and come back to me.

Thanks Bruce,

Agreed, Data source on one report is a red herring to the main issue.

Have reinstalled now and (as suspected) nothing changed.

Logged in as different Windows user and same issue.

I assume you have checked your data.

Have you done a reindex and compress though? That might help.

assuming those easy options don't work, lets try isolating the actually financial data...to see if the problem is in the financial data or in the ancillary data around it such as the report layouts themselves (which have to be contenders for causing the trouble)

find you demo data directory and your company data directories.
In each you will find a directory called accdata.

Rename the demodata directory to accdata.old
copy the accdata directory from your company folder to demo data directory.

Go into sage, open up the demo data (it should now have company data in it) and try running the report again....

1) Now done re-index and compress.
2) Copied my company.000 ACCDATA to Demodata folder and then log in as demo data....and ...

Same result on the e-mail report (i.e tries to send to file).

Would love to :) but... it is clearly the entire company confidential records. Is there another way?

Bruce,

Took your advice and spoke to Sage in a 'firm' manner

Having been through the call scripts, they applied some thought to the problem and the resolution (eventually) was.

1) Go into Settings and Company Preferences.
2) Put any letter after the Company Name and OK it.
3) Go back into Company Preferences and remove the letter you added and OK it.

Bingo.

Apparently Sage can get confused if you upgrade by installing a new version (as opposed to bravely overwriting your original!) and then use data with the same company name (adding and removing the letter seems to jog its memory).

P.S. For anyone reading this, I can highly recommend Bruce as extremely helpful for your support issues. Many thanks and enjoy your holiday.

That is a new one for me.

A very bizarre cause of a very bizarre problem.
