Sage Line 50 Networking Help
Sage Line 50 Networking Help
Hi I found site after a google search I hope someone may be able to help with the problem I have.
I have Sage L50 installed on 2 machines the Main program works from PC1 which also has the account details which are in C:/Program Files/Sage/Accounts.
PC2 hard drive crashed (windows problem) so I fitted a new hard drive which is drive C: and connected the original drive as a slave which is drive F: ( there are 2 DVD rom disks which take up D: and E: ) the problem was when I re-installed Sage L50 on PC2 it found back-up files on the slave drive and installed them.
I am know having problem networking to PC1 which has the accounts data.
The Sage files in PC1 are shared but if I try and map PC2 to look at the Sage Account files in PC1 it can't see them all it sees is the Program File Folder and thats as far as I can go, if I try and share this folder i.e Program Files by default it won't let me, I can onle share drive C: and the Sage Program folders.
Can anyone please help with the problem.
Regards John

The simple way to point your workstation copy of line50 to the server set of data is to edit the "company" file in the sage installation directory on the workstation you can do this with notepad (even though it seems strange to edit a file with no extension, it works) when you open the file you will see the current path to your F: drive data.
Alter the path to be the path to the data on your "server" pc.
NB: you need to use mapped drive letters for old versions, newer versions will accept unc names and so not break when drive mapping get lost/broken.

Thanks for help, I did eventually map the 2 drives and am still having a problem with PC2.
Although when I was in the "Map Network Drive" window I did have to manually type in \Sage\Accounts after Program Files as the folder would not open any further. ???? Have I got a problem there ????
When I start Sage on PC2 I get an error message "Error accessing file Z:" and "Access is denied"
I am wondering if the problem may be the router as I am unable to gain access to setting due to username password error and I don't want to re-set router to factory defaults unless I have to.

One other thing I have tried was to re-install Sage L50 but when I ran it came up with error, so after going in to Regedit and I edited the lastinstallpath as it was looking at C: Program files/Sage/Accounts I changed the drive to Z but the error was the same as before or maybe the path should be the full path of Network Mapsetting.

Go to the networked sage installation directory and check you have full access (try creating a file with notepad to check this)
sounds like you may have read only access.

I will check that next time I look into the problem which will be Monday.
But one thing I did find, I have the same program running on 2 other machines which I have at home, PC1 has Vista and PC2 has Windows XP SP2 and when I memory mapped both systems, PC2 logged on without any problems.
Also the password problem I have ruled out know as when I checked this on my home set up PC2 came back asking for the password I had set up in PC1
The other thing I will try on the system I have the problem with is a different Router the one at the moment is Netgear which is LAN connected not wireless but the one I have at home is a Belkin N1 mimo.
If anything springs to mind please post, many thanks for your help.

I found problem I was mapping drive Z: to wrong location it was just a matter of trial and error to find correct path.
The only outstanding problem I have is if I put a password in PC1 and log on with PC2 the password is rejected as already logged on I have tried inserting different password when I have say PC1 on then logoff and go to PC2 and enter a different password, then when I go back to PC1 its changed that as well.
Can you tell me how I can set each PC with different passwords.
Thanks for help.

You need to setup different user names , to do this you have to buy a multi user licence.

The Company does have a Multi user licence, the problem seems to stem from the re-install on PC2.
If someone logs on to PC1 first which has the account files, there are 2 names set up in that machine, then if someone then logs onto PC2 it shows an error message "there are to many users".
If you logon to PC2 first then it will allow you to logon to PC1 then with a different user name.

This is a different problem to that originally described.
Sounds like you have used the old keycode in error. Use the upgrade option to put in the correct keycode or copy the sage.usr file from the installation directory
