would be very grateful if anyone could help, shed any light,on what may be happening? We are running Sage 50 Prof 2009 (15.01.20.019) on Vista - one user/one company (data held on company server) and have been without any major running problems since first installed. recenltly i have been experiencing "not responding" on several occaisions sometimes when trying to save screens after data entry - this has caused data corruption and i have had to restore to a previous "clean" backup, and at other times when only exiting/entering a screen (no data entry, so no real problem). what happens(for example bank/customes receipts)is that when finished entering the data lines you go to press "save" this button then just "greys out" and you get the waiting cursor signal - nothing else. If you then enter the task manager it says that sage 50 program & the process you are in are both not responding. even after waiting for quite sometime it seems the only way to sort it is to force shut down, - run error check and if necessary restore back up. this has happened at least a dozen times in the last 4-5 weeks and is getting somewhat "tiresome" for want of a better word !
We have an it guy who has looked into my pc - cleaned up system files/HDD/improved the ram etc, as we thought it could be a hard ware problem but this has not done anything. For info we have just finished, but not yet shut down sage , our year end for Dec 2013. We also recently moved offices but i have been assured that the network & my pc are communicating just as before. any help would be very much appreciated (at least ideas) before i end up throwing it out of the office window.......

Re: Sage50 freezing/not responding intermittently ?
My first thought would be "What has changed"
The obvious first step would be to test connectivity.
The other thing would be to ask why you would keep the data on the server. You are single user so it doesn't make good sense to do that.
I would move the data to the PC and backup data to the server (or better still drop box)

Re: Sage50 freezing/not responding intermittently ?
many thanks for your response - I'm not overly genned up on IT systems but i was convinced that as it only appeared to happen after the office move (over the xmas break) that it must be something to do with the connection setup. our IT guy was on hand at one time when sage locked up and looked into the processes "behind" but was happy that the server/pc connection appeared fine and up to speed.........
the only other thing that i thought could be an issue (?) is that we are now posting "future" transactions as we have not yet shut down our year end for Dec 2013 - are you aware of any problems/glitches that may cause it to lock up - even though we have had no similar problems in previous years.....
I take on board the suggestion of not reqiring the serve r (if only for backups etc) - i had considered this before but i think it was just a, "what if we want to put others on sage", decison in the early days. I will let the powers that be know this may be the best solution. We are wanting to upgrade to sage 2014 - but i will email/message you separately about this, if thats ok (so maybe will just have to "ride out" these current problems until then).

Re: Sage50 freezing/not responding intermittently ?
My thought is that it is the network cables. These have been changed and so they are the likely culprits. I would run some serious testing on it.
Removing the network from the equation by hosting the data locally would, improve performance and confirm the hypothesis.
