Hello,
I work for a haulage company that uses a very old version of sage (v8 - 8.00.0019). We recently upgraded from Windows 7 home 64 bit to Windows 10 home 64 bit.
But the problem arose before this. We had a problem with the administrator profile of the computer and it became corrupted. I managed to create a new profile and move the information from the corrupted user across, then deleted the old one.
For a short while sage appeared to be working fine.
The issue first occurred when trying to print the VAT return, similar to the issue identified in this old thread here:
viewtopic.php?t=857
However the issue appears to be across the whole program and we can't run any reports of any description, eg: statements, audit trail etc..
Nor can we print/preview any layouts. We are certain that it is not a printer issue as our printer works fine in all other programs, plus we can't preview to choose a printer in the first place.
Instead the program crashes and the message that "sage Line 50 main EXE has stopped working" appears.
We are using VAT cash accounting.
My boss is hesitant to call Sage as the version is so old and we are sure they will just tell us to upgrade and charge us a large amount to do so. So we were hoping to get some help & advice here, please.

Re: Sage Line 50 V8 VAT return issue
Sage will ask you to buy Sagecover Extra as that includes the upgrade to the latest version. The price depends on No of Users, No of Companies etc. However it's not as simple as that, you cannot upgrade to V22 straight away you will have to upgrade to another version first. So there will be the cost of Sagecover etc plus getting the data upgraded plus getting all your reports and layouts rewritten.
The issue you have is simple, you are trying to run software created in 2002 in an operating system released in 2015/16. Windows 10
If you are really that reluctant to upgrade, I would suggest trying to get hold of a computer/laptop running Windows XP (ebay sell 'em) and install from your original Sage disks then restore a backup copy of your data including all layouts/reports as that is the latest Operating System that V8 is designed to work with (bearing in mind that XP is also no longer supported)
Cheers

There is no doubt that running really old software on new operating systems may cause some issues. however... I suspect that it can be made to work.
It works on my copy of windows 10.
I would check that .net v3.5 is enables in W10
I would then do a clean reinstall http://www.makingithappen.co.uk/sage-50 ... nstall.htm

For just about anything Sage :- Discount subscriptions, pay-as-you-go support, application integration, reports, layouts, linked excel spreadsheets, analysis or any other help making life with sage easier/less time consuming Contact me.

However the problem did exist before we upgraded to Windows 10 via the free upgrade that was offered to us. This was on our old OS of windows 7 64bit. I will check that .net v3.5 is enabled but we think the problem might be something else.
