Date format issues driving me crazy

Post by Cathy » 19 Apr 2006, 20:01

I have recently taken over accounts and am quite up to date with sage accounts.
I've entered loads of stuff until yesterday when i hit a wall.

Sage wont let me put a dates in so i cant carry on.

i have shut down, re-started. restored and tried again but no difference.

I cant do any work and im getting worried.

If i enter the date in any format it says "incorrect date format or invalid date"

If I simply select the date from the pop out calendar it fills the date automatically and still says "incorrect date format or invalid date"

ive tried changing the program date and this is the same?

basically it wont allow me to put any other date in than todays so i cant carry on.

I have asked the previous accountant (off on maternity leave) if this has happened to her at all and she said "Yes. but i can remember what i had to do"

please can anyone shed any light on this.
desperate.
Cathy

JUST ANOTHER NOTE

Post by CATHY » 19 Apr 2006, 21:08

THE DATE WHEN IM TRYING TO ENTER IT IN DD/MM/YYYY format errors and goes blank.
it then gives the date to me in mm/dd/yyyy format which errors but allows me to continue.

when trying to save it then says the date is to early i.e 03/13/2006 is earler than 21/02/2006

in short. the date formats are messed up.

i have uninstalled, re-installed and tried another PC. still the same?

Help pleeeeease

I am going to take a guess that you are running Windows 9X or ME.

You don't say.

The problem is with windows and not with Sage. It is a known bug with the regional settings.

If this is the issue, you can fix it by doing the following.

Go to the control panel, open regional settings, set the date to be US format mm/dd/yyyy then hit apply. (Yes I know it is wrong)

Now open regional settings again and set it to dd/mm/yyyy (pick the one with four y's not the one with 2) Apply the changes.

You may need to reboot but all should be well.

still having problems...

Post by nickd80 » 08 Apr 2008, 13:28

Hi,

I too having been experiencing this problem.

Originally, I experienced the problem with other applications as well and eventually realised that my PC's default date format was US mm/dd/yyyy, so I changed it to UK dd/mm/yy.

Of course, I still had a problem with Sage so I decided to see whether anyone else had the same problem and came upon this thread.

I tried to do what brucedenney advised: I changed the regional setting to US mm/dd/yyyy and applied the changes. I then re-opened the regional settings and set it to dd/mm/yyyy and applied the changes. I restarted the PC, but I am still having date issues.

Does anyone know whether when you try the steps recommended by brucedenney you change the region to from UK to US, then select the customise option to carry out the recommended steps and to then change the region back to the UK before changing the date format back to dd/mm/yyyy?

This is sooooooooo annoying, you expect these problems from SAP, not Sage!

This advice fixed it for me, thank you! I recently replaced my PC with a Mac and installed Parallels to run Sage 50. I was having issues in most date fields with the format and have just changed the settings as above and it all seems OK now. Thank you brucedenney!
FYI I'm running Windows 7 in Parallels, and Sage 50 2010 v16.

Is the date format set to dd/mm/yy or dd/mm/yyyy ?

FAO Sarah74 and anyone else with date input issues on windows 10.

I'm running an old version of sage 50 (v12) and recently upgraded to windows 10.

Low and behold Sage stopped accepting the date formats for any inputs (e.g. invoice processing etc). Changing the date and time format at the bottom right time icon to UK time zone and even dd/mon/yyyy format doesn't work.

So the fix is click the time in the bottom corner. Then date and time settings, then 'additional date, time and regional settings'. Under 'language' click change input methods. Now US is probably first and the UK below, first change the order to UK first, then click into the UK settings, you'll have the option to download the UK settings pack and this will allow you to change the date to the correct format.

This change worked and allowed my Sage to input dates (after restarting Sage). Hope that helps anyone

Thank you! I too have old version of Sage v14 and have upgraded to Windows 10 and the above suggestion worked first time! Only took about 10-15 mins to download the UK language pack and logged back into Sage and hurrah!

The problem is a Microsoft one, not a Sage one. Microsoft assumes everyone wants to enter dates in US format and will often put them in the US format even when UK is chosen, there was a known issue with XP and ME as Bruce said previously. If you work across a network, check that the server is not in US date format as this can prevent updates and upgrades working properly.
