Sage/Windows 10 SBDesktop.exe Crash
Sage/Windows 10 SBDesktop.exe Crash
Hi,
So we made the upgrade to windows 10 after reading sage fully supported sage 50 accounts v21, how wrong I was, should have known better then to play with fire.
Anyway the issue we having is as follows, We have two users both their machines are on windows 10 64 bit it was going well until they try to open the customer activity. on all of our customers we get a "SBDesktop, exe has stopped working" error.
(side note the user accounts on both machines are administrators)
another side note this issue happens with the local test demo data
Now these are the things I have tried so far:
Following a very long uninstall and reinstall process provided by sage phone support.
link http://ask.sage.co.uk/Scripts/ask.cfg/p ... p_pv=1.311
Failed
Running sage as administrator
this did not work on the load screen it cannot for some reason see the company files on the network when run as admin. on normal lunch it can direct to the network fine.
Failed
We(remote sage support/me) have tried sage built in data & compress tools
Failed
Given both user accounts admin on server with sage data files
Failed
Change windows ownership to the local admin user away from system
this was a desperate attempted as I have lost all faith in my technical knowledge.
Failed
So any advise or if you can see something simple I have missed would be greatly appreciated I am ready go insane over this.
Thanks.

Hey Bruce,
Thanks for the quick reply.
So I did not know about this tool and I just downloaded and run it. Unfortunately we still got the same error.

Re: Sage/Windows 10 SBDesktop.exe Crash
Are you using a UNC path for your Data or a mapped drive, I now suggest a UNC path is the way to go, this may allow sage to run as administrator.
If you are part of a domain, then you need to consider if these administrators are local administrators as well as domain administrators.
Are there other users that can still access sage?
Is it ONLY customer activity that crashes, have you tried other things?
Have you tried loging in as different users?

Re: Sage/Windows 10 SBDesktop.exe Crash
Hey Bruce,
So we are using UNC
We don't use domain just mapped folders from our local server. with user accounts as access
so we have two users, both can access sage and look at data
The issue is indeed when we try to access the customer activity, and their is a rear occurrence when we try to just open random customers that the same crash occurs.
we have tried both our users and the management login to the same crash.

Re: Sage/Windows 10 SBDesktop.exe Crash
Hey Bruce,
So just to give you an update I am going through the uninstall process again and then i am going to reinstall.
as a temp problem solver I have imaged a old windows 7 laptop and put sage on it for the finance guys to carry on getting some work done. the issue is indeed absent leaving me to think it is a permission issue between the client and windows 10

Re: Sage/Windows 10 SBDesktop.exe Crash
did not work!
I am at the end of my sanity with this now so I have informed them I am going to format 1 of the machines and see if a clean install resolves the issue.
ill let you know how the format goes once complete.
thanks for all the help I am hoping a format resolves the issue and I just got really unlucky with two unstable windows 10 upgrades which I have not yet witnessed and I have done over 15 machines in the office.
Thanks again,
Wizzy

Re: Sage/Windows 10 SBDesktop.exe Crash
So I will keep updating this post for any one who has this issue in the future who has the same problem
After formatting the laptop it has not resolved the issue with sage.
I am starting to believe its ver 21 despite it being supported. the crash is still happening with live data and the demo test data.
I am going to attempted to upgrade our sage to ver 22 and see if this resolves the issue.

Re: Sage/Windows 10 SBDesktop.exe Crash
Are you saying you reformatted the PC and reinstalled windows 10 from scratch and it still doesn't.
Have you got the earlier version of .net installed?

I have V21 running on my Win 10 box... perhaps un-installing V22 and reinstalling V21 you will find it works

Re: Sage/Windows 10 SBDesktop.exe Crash
Hey Bruce,
I have downgraded them back to windows 7 now because ver 22 isn't an option as the data service doesn't support windows server 2003 which is were our sage data resides.
Out of interest what version of windows 10 are you running
we have windows 10 64 bit Pro.
I tried a reinstall twice of ver 21 and then a re-format of the machine and install of sage to the same problem.
