Can Sage automatically print labels from a picking list?
Can Sage automatically print labels from a picking list?
Hello,
The company I work for has a current system that requires someone to generate a picking list, through reports>sales order picking list reports>sales order picking list and then hitting the generate report button.
Then someone else examines the picking list and uses different software, 'ZebraDesigner 2' (Laser printer GK420T, GK Series and GX Series) to individually create the label, then print each label off.
I was hoping there is a way of attaching the Zebradesigner software to sage, or using some other software that once you generate the picking list, sage is then able to utilise that information and print off all the required labels.
Or any other possible solution that involves a particular order on sage, which you can then click print and it prints the required labels for you.
The current system we use does work, but feels out dated and very unnecessary.
Any help or knowledge anyone can pass on to me regarding this question would be greatly appreciated!
Kind Regards,
Nathan

Re: Can Sage automatically print labels from a picking list?
You should be able tp print off labels directly from Sage and not bother with Zebra
What is the purpose of the label and what does the label need to have on it?

Re: Can Sage automatically print labels from a picking list?
Thank you for replying to this Brucedenney,
The labels are placed on boxes, which contains the customer/company's name, a product name/number, product description, quantity and purchase order number.
If possible, when the customer places an order, the list of what they want is generated, could sage then automatically some how read the order data, and print of the required labels?
For example, (purely hypothetical). Coca Cola orders 40 cans. (There is 20 cans in a box), sage then automatically prints 2 labels, containing Qty 20, coco cola as customer name, short description and Purchase order number and customer ref. no.
This is a hugely simplified analogy, we print 100's sometimes 1000's of labels a day.
Help with this is vastly appreciated!
Thank you

Re: Can Sage automatically print labels from a picking list?
Yes, you can create labels, the problem is creating multiple multiple labels for one line, the line only exists once in the table so it will only print it once, I think this is going to be the stumbling block.
Zebra may well have an interface where we could pass it a list of labels to make and include in the list the number to create on each line.
This is something you would need to ask Zebra about.
I could certainly create a CSV file for your example which contained
Zebra/Label designer would need to know that the "Qty" was the number of labels to print.
-----
You could also create multiple sections in the report to print multiple lines so you could generate 2 lines for the one item, however, if you wanted to do 10 lines, then you would need to add 10 sections for more lines eventually you would reach the limit of the report designer and you would get very bored creating the layout. Not sure what the limit on the number of sections you can add is, I did try adding 100 sections to a report once and I know it crashed and burned, I would certainly do a dry run with the maximum number of sections to check before laying it all out and doing all the filters.
So if you never need more than 10 labels per line this could be an option.
Zebra/Label designer would only need to be able to import / Mail merge to do this and I guess that must be a pretty standard feature/requirement.
(BTW You can't do this with a label because labels do not allow sections but you can in a report)

Re: Can Sage automatically print labels from a picking list?
Sorry for the delayed reply Brucedenney.
Okay, so sage can print labels using information generated from an order, but we would still have to manually select how many labels it needs?
What if the zebra software had all of the labels stored on it already configured, so it knows there are 20 cans in a box, sage then has an order for 3 boxes. Is there any way to get it to automatically print 3 labels? Or would it just want to print the total/we have to enter it manually?
What do we need to do, to add labels to sage?
Ultimately, we are looking for a solution that once the order is on our system, with a click of a button, it prints all the required labels.
Huge thanks for this Brucedenney. Your help is essential here.

Re: Can Sage automatically print labels from a picking list?
Sage can print labels but only one label per line, if you want a different number of multiple copies, for different lines, it will not work as it will create multiple copies of all the lines.
If Zebrasoft has functionality to mail merge a csv file to generate labels from the sort of output I gave an example of. Then that would be the way to go.
You need to ask Zebrasoft how you can mail merge.
