Hi All
I wish to set up a new product which is bought in bulk lengths, which we then cut to customer specification.
The product will be set up as specific lengths as sales units, so for instance we would manage to extract 230 sales units from 1 case of the parent product.
Can anyone help on the best way to set this up, I imagine it would be kind of like BOM in reverse?

Re: Product Set Up
You can use a BOM with a fraction of an amount and then break a case up into singles
Single might be 0.01 of a case. You transfer 100 from the "case" stock to singles.
You might face rounding issues if the fraction of a case is not a simple amount.
The other alternative is to work in singles and buy from your supplier in singles. I have done fancy PO layouts in the past to convert the singles to cases for the paperwork to keep the supplier happy, however, you still have to book stock in as singles. As always it is a matter of choosing a compromise that works for you or spending more money on more software.

Cheers Bruce
Just kind of confirms what I had arrived at myself.
As someone new to Sage as a stock control tool I have found it clunky, inflexible, and lacking in features. This kind of confirms that for me.
Thanks for your input anyway...I'll probably be back

Re: Product Set Up
I have only been in post for a few months with this company.
They have had a plan in place for some time to move over to a Microsoft Dynamics package so any further investment in Sage is unlikely.
Thanks for the advice Bruce, much appreciated.
