Hi I am trying to get a copy of sage instants working. The laptop with the installation has failed due to it's motherboard breaking. When looking for the sage backups that were saved they are not on the memory stick where they should be. Looking at the HDD from the faulty laptop there is only one backup in there from 2011. If I install the copy of sage onto a new laptop and then write over all the installation files with ones taken from the faulty laptop will this work in getting the accounts back?

The data set and the application should still be on the laptop drive.
When you boot up it should still be in the programs menu, changing the motherboard should not affect anything in Sage.

My customer doesn't want the motherboard repaired but wants their data back. They thought they had been doing backups onto a memory stick but there is nothing on there. I looked on the faulty laptop incase they had been backing up on there by mistake but nothing there either. They have given me a laptop with sage installed to see if i can put the operating files from the faulty laptop into the new one. I thought I would ask here to see if it was possible, but looks like I will have to suck it and see.

Well I expect the data is still there, there are several places it could be depending on what version and if they chose to do a non standard install.
You need to find the location of the data set.

Then copy this data to the data path clients installation overwriting the data that is on the clients PC.
They may also need reports and layouts
Personally, I would restore it to my PC, and make a Sage Backup for them as it is much easier to manage for them.

Sorted. This was done with Sage Instants. Install Sage onto new laptop re-name all 'Sage' folders to 'sage old' (make sure you have turned off hidden folders) then take all Sage folders from old laptop and place them in their corresponding places. Jobs a good un.
