Barcoding of products

Can anyone please advise me how to create barcodes for each of our hundreds of products?
Do I just enter the same product code into the barcode field, and then print it using the barcode font?
(I suspect there is more too it, and I know barcodes have check digits and stuff, but I cannot find what my next step is.)

I use Sage 50 Accounts Professional 2010

Yes, that is all you need to do.
