Sage Line 50 Pathing Issue After Upgrade to W7 64bit

Post by MLangley » 06 Jul 2011, 11:33

Hello all,

In the last week we have upgraded our computer system and we are having issues with the Sage packages we run, especially Sage Line 50 V11 and Sage Job Costings V8 . We were running everything on a machine with Windows XP SP3 and now we have Windows 7 64 bit, which according to the Sage Website has no compatibility issues but other sites have confirmed this may not be the case.

We are running the following Sage Programs, all of which worked without any issues on Windows 98 SP3,

Sage 50 Accounts Professional 2009 - Has no issues running that are evident
Sage Instant Payroll V12.01 - Has no issues running that are evident
Sage Job Costings V8 - Has issues
Sage Line 50 V11 - Has issues

The biggest problem that I really need to find a fix for is that whenever I start up Sage Job Costings V8 I get the following error message,

'Sage line 50 datafiles on path specified are not compatible with version of job costing. Please supply the path to the data files.'

We don't have Sage support and they point blank refuse to help us with this issue, our IT guy thinks it may be a Windows 7 issue and I am at my wits end trying to find a solution to the issue.

Does anyone out there have any ideas or thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

I think the Jobcosting message is something to do with the order in which the applications are installed.

If you uninstall and reinstall Sage 50 I think it will fix it.

If not then it must be the otherway round, in which case uninstalling and reinstalling Job Costing should do the trick.

To make sure there are the minimium number of issues, it is best to do custom installs when using "older" versions on "newer" windows, hit the "custom" button during install and specifify a path eg C:\Sage\Line50 or C:\Sage\JobCost

older = Pre V15/2009
newer = Vista/Server 2009 or newer

I have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the programs in every order possible and I still get the same error message. I tried doing the custom installs to the paths you suggested but they were the same as the paths Sage wanted to use anyway.

Any further ideas?

Uninstall Sage 50 and Job costing

Re install JobCosting

BUT

Choose the the custom option.

At one point it will suggest the path to install Sage to something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage\JobCost

Change it to C:\Sage\JobCost

Reinstall Accounts

BUT

Choose the the custom option.

At one point it will suggest the path to install Sage to something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage\Accounts

Change it to C:\Sage\Accounts
