Getting info from backups

Post by Nickfaulkner » 05 Jan 2011, 17:23

Hi

I hope someone can help, my mother does the accounts and payroll for her husbands company, she needs to get into a previous years backup to access a figure. She says that she can't open the backup file. Windows asks which program created it but then doesnt list Sage as an available program to open the backup file.

I understand sage closes off accounts after the year end, how would you normally go about accessing previous accounts?

The software is installed and i dont think this is a hardware or corruption issue, (does Sage package its backups? would they need to be extracted first?)

Unfortunatly i have never used the software so dont fully understand the problem, i have looked online but can't find anyone with a similar problem. I hope this makes sense to somone!!

(Version 16 Windows XP)

Kind Regards

Nick

If she did the year end, as I would have done it, then she would have created and Archive company and would not need to restore a backup so try this first.

File>Open>Company Archive

Sage backups are not associated in windows with the Sage application, it would be too easy to accidentally restore data wiping out all the current data.

You need to BACKUP the current data first (as the restore will overwrite it and you will want to put it back afterwards) , then initiate the restore in Sage File>Restore and browse to the file and select it.
