Moving the Database

Post by Rarerims » 08 Mar 2010, 18:01

Hello clever helpful sage people :)

Our office has 3 computers and now a NAS.

For reasons unknown, when the sage software was originally installed it was put on a computer that connects with wireless, and this is where the database lives.

I would like to put it on the hard wired NAS to speed things up for the other 2 of us, as it can be agonisingly slow!

Can somebody please point me in the right direction so I can make this happen? I have searched and searched, but have enjoyed no success.

Thank you for any help you can offer!

Ben

I guess what you mean by NAS is Network access server? Is it running Windows small business server or something similar?

It's just a Network Attached Storage, basically a network drive, nothing clever :)

WARNING: some NAS are flaky, some are brilliant, make sure you are ready to restore a backup, until you are confident you have a good one.

You need to find your COMPANY file on each workstation
in the file is the path to the data
Change this to the new path
save the files

move the data
and you are done.

finding the company file varies from version to version details are on this page.

Thank you for the reply!

Can you confirm the default data location, if you happen to know it? :)

I know which machine it's on, but not exactly where.

Should be here

C:\Program Files\Sage\Accounts

Look for the file named COMPANY with no extension, edit it with Notepad and remember to make a copy before you amend it.

The location is dependant on the version of Sage 50 and the operating system

the location bill gives is only for versions 2007 and earlier

If you use the link I gave you it has detailed instructions of finding the file.
