recovering sage data from crashed pc..

Post by Gavin Storie » 10 Oct 2009, 18:29

is there a way to recover the company data from a crashed pc?

i can get access to the hard drive and have a rough idea where the company folder is located...

is it just a case of copying the folder to another working computer?

Do this and trust to the gods. Varies slightly dependent upon version..

Locate the company file. Open it and find where the data is - you're usually looking for accdata or company.???/accdata.

Copy it.

Install Sage on new computer, run Setup wizard and fill in with rubbish.

Go to help about, find the data directory and copy the contents of the directory you copied above into it.

Restart Sage. Job done. PM me if that doesn't work.

accdata is the main current financial year data, it does not include archives and a lot of other stuff.

if you go up one directory from the accdata and copy the whole directory to you new pc and then install to that directory, you are almost there.

The final thing would be to edit the company file with note pad and change the pah to the installation. If you are canny and say the directory was C:|program Files\Sage\Accounts on the old PC, if you copy it to the same place on the new PC, you will not need to do this.
