I have quite a lot of sub assemblies that are used on mutiple main parts. What I am wondering is; if I need to change the BOM of the main part to use a different usage of the sub assembly how can I find out which main parts use this sub assembly?

I am on version 13

Well, the bottom line is it is not too easy.

You see the design of the database is to have a a fixed number of BOM values associated with each product record, rather than a potentially unlimited number of child records.

So the values are there, it is just you don't know which field to look in to find them as they could be in any one of the BOM fields in the product record.

Having said that... this is the way I would do it.

First create an excel workbook and link in the data from the products table, ad a column at the end to lookup your sub assembly in any of the 50 component codes it might appear in.

Apply an autofilter to your column and you should be able to filter your list to just products containing the sub assembly.

Have a look at the example I have made, you need to change the datapath if you want to refresh it.

Thank you very much for this. We are going to give this a try over the weekend.
