Transactional corruption

Post by lmc1812 » 06 May 2009, 15:28

I have been using a multi-user Sage version. At some point during the posting, a transaction number has been missed out (in financials it is replaced by XX) and all postings after that are corrupt.

If you go into file, maintenance and look at the details of the transaction, it contains the next postings values. Therefore, the data error checking is coming up with lots of errors... Has anyone come across this before and know if there is a way to fix this?

Hey,

I'm not 100% sure this will work but nobody else has replied as of yet so i thought i would suggest it. If you follow the following i clipped from the forum rules the part about re-indexing and compressing your data files may possibly resolve your issue?? Just incase be sure to take a couple of backups to be on the safe side before trying it.
----------
Please do the following basic procedures before posting.

1/ Backup your data (Do not overwrite an old backup that you might later need, make a nice fresh clean one)

2/ Check your data for errors in File>Maintenance.

3/ Re-Index and compress your files in File>Maintenance.

4/ Get the latest patches for your version of sage and apply them.

Posting Tips

Try and be specific as possible
Which version of Line 50 you are running,
What operating system you are using
More details the better

We offer "paid for" support if you have a time critical issue. more

Due to spam postings, we have had to make registration compulsory if you want to post.

This forum is free of charge we accept no liability for the results of any actions taken based on information given in these forums.

Sorry if you have already tried this in which case i'm not much more help with this problem but worth a shot.

Cheers, Steve

I have seen this many times, your data is corrupt, you need to go back to your last good backup and repost.

Print off the end of the audit trail as a guide as to what you need to re-post.

A data fix might be possible, but you need someone like me with "tools" to do it, it is far from guaranteed that it can be done, even if successful you might still end up with a lot of work to do.

ALWAYS check your data and backup together a backup which has not had the data check run on it could be useless. Keep ALL your backups, don't overwrite them. Disk space is cheap, work is hard.

Thanks for the replies. This has happened a couple of times recently and we decided to restore a back-up and re-post the missing information. There wasn't too much as we back-up automatically every hour due to this having happened before... I did try something similar to the response before and it didn't work.

This maybe a stupid question, but is there a reason that the data gets corrupt, i.e. can we prevent it?

Thanks

I think the problem is pretty much structural in the way sage stores data in files.

It is intolerant of any network issues, lost packets, disconnections and so on.

There is good news on the horizon, Sage are moving to a new backend database and this should resolve a lot of the issues with data corruption and performance speeds.
