without having to run net setup from the server as the obdc stops responding !!!!

I suggest you install from the CD.

Once installed go to the installation directory and open the file called COMPANY (no file extension) use notepad. Alter the first line to be the path to your data directory (don't include the accdata subfolder in the path)

Start sage and you should be connected.
