Backup/Restore

When I try to Backup, a warning triangle in a box says
For protection of your data this program will not respond
whilst the backup utility is running. I click OK and get
Backup/Restore program could not be started. HELP PLEASE

Which line 50 are you using,? I've worked on several versions. Are you backing up your main system at the same time, and/or do you have any sage files open. Give me some more info and I'll try to help.

This is because you are using the external Backup utility option, that is what generates the message "For protection of your data this program will not respond whilst the backup utility is running."

I suspect that you have not configured the use of the external utility properly and so Sage has not launched the utility properly and it has not run.

Until the utility has finished running sage will wait, so sage waits for ever.

Of course, you could be correctly configured, the utility might be running and you just need to wait for it to finish (and maybe close it).

Tools>Options>Backup>Backup Tool

This should point to an application that will backup your data for you.

This sort of backuu is useful if you know what you are doing, know how to restore etc. however, in most circumstances, the standard sage backup is a preferable option.
