Sage 9 migration from a Windows 98 box to a Vista box

I have a small semi retired client who has loaded Sage 9 to a Vista box and want to migrate his data to the new box..
How does he migrate over his customer database over.
When using backup and restoring to the new machine he gets an error
"Error Creating" Common.JS.
The directory structure, where the sage application is loaded differes on the Vista and 98 machines.
He can restore to his old 98 machine using floppy disks but not to the new Vista machine.
The machines are networked together and his C:drive on the 98 machine is mapped (as drive z:) to the vista box.
A s/w upgrade is out of the question and loading 98 on the new machine is also out of the question.
I have a feeling that there is file present somewhere that contains the directory paths and a simple edit of this will solve the problem.
