Transferring to new PC

In attempting to transfer to a new (Vista) PC, I seem to have connected the newly installed (from CD) Instant Accounts v10 software to a backup data file on an external hard disk I have been using to transfer data. I uninstalled everything and started again, but now when I open the newly re-installed Sage software it comes up with "Error accessing file on J:\accounts" (This was the unintended path to the external hard disk). When I click on OK, the sage window closes, and I cannot select a new path. Help!

The path to your data is stored in the file "company" (no file extension) you can open this using notepad and change the path.
The file (for V10) should be in the installation directory, not sure exactly where instant installs itself but at a guess C:\program files\Sage Instant\Accounts\ you might need to rummage around a bit to find it.
Can't find 'Company'

Hello, thanks for your reply. However, I searched in every folder in the Sage folder in Program Files and couldn't find 'Company'. Coincidentally I have received a letter from Sage saying that I will need to upgrade my software as it is below v14 and won't cope with the VAT change and needs a VAT utility tool. I will contact them and see if they will assist in my installation problem.

That is a new upsell, I have not heard before!
Have you tried browsing to the directory?
