SOunds strange, it might be an upgraded version that has been partly broken.
1/ Are you sure it is V13, because older versions did not have this feature.
Do you see the sortable headers, do they work on reference or any other headings?
Does this happen if you try this in the demo data?

Dear Bruce
many thanks for reply
i use Version 13.02.17.0126
all other sortable headers work fine
i can see what it's doing now. when it sorts by date, it sorts by day number then month number then year number. rather than by entire date (eg by year then month then day) doh!
demo data does the same
dates are formatted in the same way as the program date

Might the date format be an issue with your regional settings in windows?

Unfortunately not. all regional settings in Windows have been set to UK now, but it doesn't make any difference
any ideas?

Try reindexing the file and compressing them.

I am a bit stumped by this.
It could still be regional settings, windows sometimes fails to reset the setting when you change them.
To be sure reset the region, date and time settings to US, restart the PC log on and then set to UK settings, restart again.
If this still does not work, uninstall and reinstall sage.
