Hi there. Hope some of you can help us.

My HD had to be reformatted and needless to say the settings were lost. D'oh, indeed.

Sadly for us, the manual that I expect to have come with the v11 cd-roms are nowhere to be found. And looking for help online had brought me here.

Can anyone tell me how I can get Sage on my computer to talk to the other 2 computers on our little network? I know I need to set the data path to the correct computer, but how do I do that?

Is it absolutely necessary to have that ODBC? My manager's computer is apparently communicating fine without ODBC (I've been told this, but not seen his Control Panel myself) with the 3rd computer, which I have been told acts as the "server".

We're running v11, on Windows XP home edition with SP2.

Any help is much appreciated. If there's anymore hard/software info that I need to put up before you can help, please PM me. Thanks!!

You need to share the data on the machine that is hosting the data.
You need to map that share to a drive on the other Pc, you then need to point sage at the data on the mapped drive.

If you have already pointed sage to the wrong data then things get more complicated.

You could always spend money and get me to do it for you.

ODBC is needed for running reports.

P.S. I think the manual is on the CD with V11

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have made that information sharable, and have the right path for my computer to link to the server/3rd computer.

But how do I tell Sage that is where to look?

Everything on Sage seems to be accounts oriented and anything remotely techy seems really hushed up.

Might have to give you a call if this doesn't improve.....

look for a file called "company" no file extension
open it with notepad and change the path in it to the path to your sage data.

Hi there, Bruce. Thank you very much for your help.

This is getting very strange as I have searched and there isn't a file called Company! There is however a log file which I can open up in notepad and in there, is a line that says Company=, and on my computer at the moment it says =Sage. Does this relate to the Company file that you mentioned?

Does "everything" (in terms of connectivity between the computers and printing) hinge upon the ODBC? The Man at the office is pretty certain that the ODBC32 is not needed, though I am not entirely convinced as I do recall having seen that icon on my Control Panel prior to my computer needing a hard drive reformat; then again, if he says so....

You must be looking somewhere else. Perhaps there are several installations of sage on your PC.

Do a windows explorer search for a file CALLED company

Hi there, Bruce. Thanks again. What you suggested was exactly what I did on the C drive but the search function wasn't able to find any file named "company" on my hard drive, which only has one partition. That was why I had gone into the directories myself and opening things up just to see what they were.

You need to show hidden files and operating system files to find the one hidden down in Documents and Settings/All users/Application Data/Sage/....
