'Waiting to lock file INVINDEX.DTA'

Whenever I attempt to open the invoices tab in the customer process module, or despatch an order to create an invoice a progress bar appears which reads: 'Waiting to lock file INVINDEX.DTA'. This bar runs and runs until I have to close the program down as it isnt getting anywhere. I am at the moment unable to create or print out invoices due to this. any ideas or past experience....

I would check the data files are okay.

Do a backup and then run full file maintenance, do compression and re indexing.
