BOM

Post by jasonashby » 28 Jun 2024, 09:05

We have a stocked product which comes in packs that we cut into samples to send out to customers. out of each stocked pack we will get between 10-15 samples.

I understand it is possible to use BOM to transfer a pack from the main stock into the sample stock, but I am struggling to see if / how I can then input the number of samples that has been cut from the main stock item pack

We charge the customer for the samples, and there will also need to have a cost value for each sample which ideally needs to be the main product cost price per pack / number of samples cut.

Number of samples cut may vary from pack to pack due to damages.

The stock transfer is set up using a BOM

Create your sample product code, go to the BOM tab and enter the recipe to make it, add the source product and in the Qty enter 0.1 if you get 10 samples or 0.833 if you get 12.

Once setup, you can do a stock transfer enter the product you want to make and the qty of them you make eg 10, press the transfer button.

One (10 * 0.1) of the source product will be removed form stock and 10 of the sample product will be put into stock.

You can now sell samples as you have stock.

If the number of samples varies then you will have issues. You will need to go for the max and then adjust out the damaged samples that were lost in the process.
