Sage 50 Cloud Accounts downgrade

Post by ian332isport » 27 Jan 2023, 22:36

Is it possible to downgrade from V29 to V28?

Since updating from V28 to V28.1, we’ve had constant ‘out of memory’ errors when trying to export quotes or sales orders etc. Sage support suggested we update to V29 to fix the problem. It didn’t.

They keep trying to blame it on Microsoft and/or the size of the background image we’ve been using since 2016.

I’m not confident they will release a fix in a timely manor. I don’t think they see it as their problem either, despite plenty of other people reporting the same problem.

We’ve obviously got backups from before we installed V28.1, but restoring this is going to lose a huge amount of data. Is there any way to down convert V29 data to work on V28?

Thanks,
Ian.

Thanks Bruce.

I feared that would be the case. :(

Hi Ian,

I feel your pain.

While you wait for a fix, maybe play around with the background image? If you remove it does the problem go away? It's likely that you wouldn't have paid much attention to the file size in 2016 if it just worked without issue back the. Maybe there would be a smaller file size, that didn't compromise on quality too much, that could be used in the interim?

HTH

Ian

You can do several things to reduce the size of the report when saved as PDF.

You can use different image formats with different compression, increasing compression makes files smaller.
You can use a smaller image and scale it in the report to make it the right size.

Both of these exchange size for quality and there are a lot of different compromises to be found.

I encountered one user who had a high resolution scan of his old pre printed stationery with grid and logos which was massive and didn't look very good. I got a good quality image of his logo off the website which I resized and compressed, the grid and ancillary text was all embedded in a template. The final result was much smaller and looked better.

Hi Ian,

Yes it does.

I've tried reducing the image quality, but it's already only at what I would class as 'acceptable' quality now. Just to put this into perspective, my image file is only 158KB and 300dpi. I could maybe understand if it was a massive hi-res image, but it isn't.

Sage have broken something in the 28.1 update. They're currently trying to fudge our template rather than accept that they have a problem though.

Thanks,
Ian.

It could be that the report has a "feature"

Perhaps if yo recreated it from scratch it would work?

Hi

This is what I would do..

1. Backup current sage
2. We backup with transaction number in backup name, do you know prior backup transaction number, then print current transaction numbers so know what need to ' repost ' hopefully not too much but if export to excel could import.
3. restore old backup and reinput or import data.

Will this help ?

The problem existed in V28 so not much point in going back.

I suspect the background image is the issue, it should be a quick fix, although not heard anything for a while.
