Expression for total number of items on a PO

Hi,
I'm trying to add a field to a couple of print outs (a packing list and a purchase order) that shows the total number of items to pack, or that have been ordered.
So, if 10 of Item A and 15 of Item B have been ordered, the field should show 25.
All my attempts up to now have either given just the number of lines, or, somehow, the square of the number of lines. (I can give examples of what I've tried if I'm supposed to prove that I've at least tried to do it myself, not sure if this is that sort of forum.)
Is there a way to do this?
