Errors in addition

We have Sage 50, and issue a monthly P/L with year to date, previous year, etc. This past month, I copied and pasted the P/L is into an Excel spreadsheet. The total for the last year to date column was different, between Sage and Excel, so I manually checked the numbers as well as manually added the Sage and Excel column. The addition in the Sage P/L was incorrect. How could this happen? Thanks for any guidance you might have for this issue. Of the 4 columns (this month, previous year, year to date, last year to date) only the last year to date column didn’t add up properly. It’s a mystery....????

Thank you for your reply. Actually, we have ‘solved’ our mystery, but created another. The P/L for operating costs for last year, July 2017, indicated an amount of approximately 4,000 euro for ‘maintenance’, yet the manual addition of that column indicated that Sage was adding only 2500 euro of that maintenance amount. We went back to our records of last year, ran the Sage amounts for the nominal code for maintenance for July, and found that a journal entry had been made on 31 July for the additional 1500 (in other words, the original cost amount was 2500, and a journal entry had been added to July for an additional 1500, making the total cost amount 4000). Is there some reason why Sage is not picking up that journal entry amount in its P/L computation?? We’d like to avoid this for the future, so that we know we can ‘trust’ the figures. Thank you again for your advice.

What was the date on the journal.
