How to create a sales order for a fixed price job

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me. I have just upgraded to Sage 50 Professional from sage 50 Standard and now I am looking to use the Sales Order functionality. We are a services company so do not account for stock and most of our jobs are a fixed price instead of an hourly rate. I can see how to create a product/service when we do charge an hourly rate and then I can vary the quanitity, but I am not sure what to do when creating a Sales Order for a fixed price job. At the moment I have just created a product called 'Consutlancy' and left the unit rate as 0 then when creating a Sales Order I just insert the fixed price into the product line. Is this how I should be doing this?

I am also not sure how I then create a invoice for these works. I would like to create an invoice based upon progress, but I can't see this option and the invoice is for the full amount.

Please help.

Hi

What you might consider...

S2 product code for simple 1 line things
S3 product code for things that need a long verbose description.

If you are invoicing in Stages, then put each of the Stages separately onto the Sales order and as you complete each stage you can "ship" each of the items.

eg

1 S2 Stage 1 of refurb £3000
1 S3 Stage 2 of Refurb
Rewiring
Decoration £4000
1 S2 Retention £500

If you want you could also part ship an item, so you could have a Qty of 1 and ship 0.30 for the 30% stage payment.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for your reply. I will definitely give that a try using the S2 and S3 product codes.

Part shipping an item will also give me the flexibility I need in invoicing regarding progress payments.

Thanks very much!
