Hopefully someone can help please.

I am doing my end of month for a client but the total turnover on VAT return is more than the actual sales turnover I have in P&L how do I check what and why the figure on VAT is more.

If you click on the figure on the screen in the vat return you can drill down into it and see what it is made up of.

When you run the return does it warn you about transactions in a prior period, I could be something that has been backdated so not in the current P&L but correctly on the VAT return.
