Hi there, Im quite new to this as i am working in a family business and accounts were not my thing (I was the one that got my hands dirty) Not thet my uncle has had a stroke ive now got the job. What im trying to do is have my accounts at the work and back up to my home Pc incase anything happens to the work computer. The accounts back up ok but wont restore. An error comes up saying "error creating file". When i move the box out the road its stopped on SL50_V5.HTM. Hope this means something to somebody. Im just wary as ive got hundreds of accounts up and running and would have to go back to the dark ages to suss out who owes money!

Line 50 V5 is very old and has not been supported by Sage for many years.

I suspect your problem might come from the operating system, the installation program when it was written would not have known about any of the new features, so we are relying on XP's compatibility for the installer to work properly.

Did the installation run properly and could you access the blank company and the demodata alright?

What operating systems are you using ?

How are you moving the backup file sageback.001 from the old PC to the new PC?

If you are concerned about loosing a mission critical system, then you might also want to consider upgrading to a supported version.

Hi there, Thanks for the reply! Im using win 2000 at the work and win Xp at home. Im using a memory stick to transfer the data between. It went once ok then when it didnt go i wiped the whole lot off my home pc and tried a fresh install and restore but it didnt work. I then went back to my work pc and backed up my work to its hard drive then tried to restore it and the same error came up! I run the file maintanance and it found one warning and loads of comments mainly that all my accounts dont have a nominal code? The warning was that sales order 1 item 2 has no nominal code.
Everything worked fine untill the other week and i no longer have the old back ups to restore from and re enter all the data. Any itead would be greatly appreciated. :? Next problem will be im waiting on a laptop coming to replace the old computer and it will be running vista!

I assume that the office PC works fine and the home one is causing the problems?

I assume the office has the data and it works fine.

I don't quite understand your references to not having backups.

It could be an access rights issue, try and find the file SL50_V5.HTM on the home PC and see if you can rename it. If you can try resoring the backup again.

Why use Vista? Just makes a fast PC into an average PC with fancy graphics!

Hi again, neither the office pc or the work pc are restoring. I can do the backup and it says its sucessfull on the office pc but when i try to restore it comes up with the same error as the home pc? Im confused with this one! Ive been always backing up to backup.001 and overwriting all the time unfortunatly! Thanks again for your replys

Try it and find out, if you rename it, you can always rename it back again...

If you delete the file from both machines I think it will solve it.

If that doesn't work you might need to look at the access rights and/or read only flags on the file when it is recreated.
