Sage 50 Backup / Restore issue
Sage 50 Backup / Restore issue
We are running Sage 50 - 2010. A backup has been made every week and has been stored in a dedicated directory.
The computer needed replacement, so we installed Sage 50 on the new computer and copied the backup files to be restored on the new computer.
However... it doesn't want to restore the files.
Every time I try to restore a file, the program tells me: "This data is from an unsupported version of the program. It is not possible to convert this data directly."
To make it even worse, I have tried making a backup from what's in the new Sage 50 install. (just some basic startup accounts information). Backup runs fine, but when I want to restore into the same software it comes up with the same error..
According to the Restore information, the Data Version of the backup is V6
So.. we have now concluded that not only our new install doesn't work, the backups we have made on the old system are also not restorable.. ouch!!
Tried talking to Sage who are only interested to sell a support contract which in my opinion is outrageous as the program seems to be at fault.
Is there anybody here who knows what's happening, or even more important, who knows how to solve this issue?

Re: Sage 50 Backup / Restore issue
Go into Sage and go to Help -> About -> System Information and, from the left hand side, select Directories. Right click on the data folder and choose Go To Folder which will open the data folder in Windows Explorer.
In the folder that opens, can you see either an ACCDATA or an ARCHIVE folder - if so, delete them and try the restore again.

Thanks for replying so fast
Just tried this, but unfortunately no joy, the error stays the same.
There was a ACCDATA folder which I have deleted. Also restarted Sage to be sure it would detect the deletion of the folder.

Re: Sage 50 Backup / Restore issue
If you are willing to do so, I'd be happy to take a look, free of charge, at one of your backups and see if I can get it to Restore in any of the versions of Sage that I have installed - if we can prove that the backup is OK, we can take it from there...

Re: Sage 50 Backup / Restore issue
Just to update the thread in case anyone else has any ideas...
The data restores into v2011 (which recognises it as a v2010 backup) and converts with no issues. However, my copy of v2010, like the OP, believes the data to be from v6 although v2009 can't detect the version number at all...

Re: Sage 50 Backup / Restore issue
If you copy the ACCDATA directory then it should work regardless.
I have seen issues where the new install has not been upgraded to the right build. To get around that you just create a new blank company, apply all the updates (as outlined in "read this first") and and then the restore works.
This sounds like a different issue, very interesting.

That's what I endup suggesting and, as far as I know, it worked although I still haven't been able to find any reason why the backup was being read in the way it was...brucedenney wrote:If you copy the ACCDATA directory then it should work regardless.
