A Company which i have only recently become involved with have a totally unwieldy product code numbering system, alphanumeric + non alpha characters, variable length, different codes for same product etc, etc. We have devised a new, much simpler, shorter, meaningful numbering system which we need to implement.
What is the best way to do this? I don't imagine that the product codes can simply be changed. Do we need to carry out a stocktake, setup the new codes and then transfer balances to them and then deactivate the old codes? Can we use the BOM facility (i.e. setup a BOM for each old product code which has a BOM structure comprising 1 x new product code?). As you can probably tell, i'm not an Accountant or Stock expert, merely an IT bod trying to help out with a sensible way forward. T
