Following re-installation I get the following message every so often - for example when double clicking in a customer.

"SGWebBrowser invalid argument".

If I ignore it, everything seems to carry on OK, but it is a Pain.

Sage 50, version 15, bang up to date.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate RTM.
I have reinstalled Sage using the repair option. There were no versions of Sage on this machine before this one.
Machine is Toshiba Satellite Pro A200, 3Gb Memory, 160Gb Hard Drive. Lots of space.

Using Microsoft Security Essentials as protection.

Sorry, never seen that up to V16 on 2k, XP or Vista.

One would have to suspect this or IE8, but that is based entirely on supposition, guesswork and prejudice :/

I would agree with you, except that when I run it on a Desktop (dell) with the same Configuration (IE8 and W7 Ultimate) there are no such errors!

Is there a debug mode I can turn on to try and bottom whats causing this annoying message?

I am having the same thing with Sage 2010 running Win 7 Pro - have you had any success in tracking it down?

Still no progress on this, it seems to be - in my case - a byproduct of Sage running on Windows 7 on a laptop. Does not occur on windows 7 running on desktop.

Its something to do with permissions I think, but what I do not know.

I just wondered if anyone had found a solution to this error yet? My colleague gets it on his PC every time he opens a supplier record, product record, etc etc. No-one else in the office gets it. We are running Sage 50 Accounts version 16 (2010) on Windows 7 64-bit on all PCs (desktops). Very annoying!!

My thought would be that it could be a permissions issue, Sage is being naughty and writing somewhere it should not (well where windows 7 thinks it should not). (Or the permission on the local machine are locked down and tripping something for that user)

I would un install, then re install, but not to the programs directory, use c:\sage or something like that.
This will avoid the issues with Windows7 preventing writing to the program files directory.

No guarantee it will work.


IE issue =>
look in favourites for any folders/files starting with strange square characters, remove any that you find.

UAC =>
Turn off UAC in Control Panel>Users

The next step would be to use procmon from system internals to monitor the application and when it locks up see what it was doing.

I have the same problem on a Vista machine so it's not a Win 7 issue. It is a pain so if anyone does have a solution please post.

Try installing the SG Desktop update (currently sbddesktopbuild107.exe)

Hi. My Sage supplier suggested the following solution which has worked for me!

Exit Sage
Open Internet Explorer and go to Favourites and look for any with corrupted names (invalid characters etc) and delete them.
Restart Sage and the error message should have gone!

Have had the same problems with the SGWebBrowser on my laptop and 2 out of 3 desktops networked at work. Although I use firefox i went into internet explorer and found a folder in favourites with an incorrect symbol in the name ( a square), Checked the items in the folder and moved them to a new one. Deleted the folder and went back into Sage and the """""* annoying SGWebBrowser message had disappeared - Success, Will try it on the desktops tomorrow. Many thanks for the help.

Yes just to confirm that I too had the problem when shutting down sage. My version is V16 and I am running Win7 64bit and use two or three different browsers. I went to IE8 and checked my favourites but could not find any currupt characters so I decided to backup then delete all favourites. After deleting 50% of my favourites I tried Sage again and Hey Presto, it now shuts down without the nuicence SGWEBBrower error.
Fantastic, I just thought I would pass this on.....

The strange/foreign characters are just somewhere in the favourites, normally in a folder name, but not always.

I think everyone should install a browser other than IE and delete the entire contents of the directory and say goodbye to a whole bunch of issue around IE
