My cash book balance at the end of last year was -6000 (including unpresented cheques and balance on the statement) and the balance on statement was 200. Now I am not sure how to input opening baalnces on Sage. Can you help please.

I think that you just need to enter all your B/F unpresented cheques and deposits.
The items relating to the previous year are entered dated in the previous year, the tax code is t9 as the VAT has been accounted for already (unless you are cash accounting) The nominal code is PL Reserve. I suggest you put them on as individual items as that will make the bank rec much easier to do as you can match off individual items rather than the whole batch.
