Account with Nil Balance Showing figures in Aged Analysis

We're coming up to our year end, and whilst going through our accounts, I've noticed that we have some Sales and Purchase Accounts that whilst they have no outstanding transactions and a nil balance, figures are still showing in the aged analysis. Whilst this doesn't appear to be effecting any reports it is confusing users when they are agreeing payments to suppliers and chasing debts. We have also noticed a similar problem on some Nominal Accounts, the overall code balance is correct but when looking at the activity listing for a specific month, whilst the debit and credit totals are correct the displayed variance / balance is not. After carrying out File>Maintenance>Check Data>Recovery Tools>Recalculate Period Values followed by a reindex and compress, so far the Nominal Accounts appear to be corrected, however we are still finding Sales and Purchase accounts with errors.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a fix?

Normally this is thing likes credit notes unmatched against invoices.
