Com. Code Descriptions

Post by jerrygallow » 16 Jan 2007, 12:51

Hi all, our company has just started using Sage for all its needs and have a newbie question. We have literly 1000's if items in our products section and we need to remove the Com. Code Descriptions field in each product. So far its been a case of selecting the whole line of products, clicking on edit products and going through each one in turn and removing the Com. Code Description and saving. This is taking forever !! Is there an easy way to remove all the Com. Code Descriptions for all the products without having to do this ?

I even right clicking when all the products are selected and using batch change, but then all the fields are blank and there is nothing to remove

Thanks.

Batch change should work if you put a space in.

You could also do this by exporting the data to csv
using the Product Details report "Product Record CSV (extended)"
run the report to file
select the csv option when you save it
open the file using a spreadsheet program
(watch out for excels love of automatically converting things)
Change the commodity code to a space in all the cells
save the sheet as a csv file
close excel
in Sage
File>Import>Stock Records point it at your file and import it

It would be sensible to backup sage before importing the stock codes, just in case.
