Changing customer account references

How do I change a customer account reference(Line 50 v12 win xp)?
When I try to do it it seems to think that I want to create a new account.

You can not change a Customer Account reference in Line 50.

(Well I can, because I have some special tools)

The account reference has to be changed in a whole load of places, every invoice, every audit trail transaction ... and so on.

If you want to email me a backup I could do it for you for a small fee.
