Can I add sop item comments to the gdn ?

Sage 50 Accounts Pro 2011

Each of our products has a serial number, and when shipping I'd like to have these serial numbers shown on the gdn.

I have already added the serial numbers into the comment fields of the sop item on the order, but I can't work out how to get the comments on the gdn. The quantity, stock code and item description are there, but the comment fields aren't shown in the expression editor.

I can't believe this isn't an uncommon requirement, so is it possible ?

If not, does anyone have any ideas as to how I should achieve it ?

If you want to track serial numbers then there are several third party addons that do it.

There are also other third party products not in the sage catalogue that can link to sage, many that don't link to sage could be made to link to sage for relatively small amounts.

It's not the serial numbers I'm really interested in.

All I want to do is to have the comment fields shown on the gdn.

This doesn't seem too much to ask ... but it does appear to be not supported !?!

That's a shame as I would also like to have my comments printed on the Despatch note report Is there really no way of adding them like you can on the purchase order report?

You can print them on the Delivery note, they just are not on the GDN

Sorry my fault, I was having a brain failure and forgot that GDN was not a cut down name for the report. I really should wake up before making posts! Anyway how easy is it to add the comments to the report? I've tried using the designer but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it without getting everything printed several times!

Please confirm that you just want to add comments to the standard delivery note.

Yes just the two comment lines. Although I have to admit I hadn't noticed that the message lines didn't print, but that's mainly because I don't use them on sales orders Thanks Bruce.

The message lines don't print because, there is no way for sage to "know" which items they relate to or if those items are on the despatch note. (you can force them, but they print regardless)

There are two ways to print the comments

1/ Just make the details section taller and add the 2 comment lines under the description. This works fine, but it always print blank spaces if the comments are blank, so looks very gappy and uses more paper than needed.

2/ To add sop_item_number 2 footers one for each comment and make them conditional on the comments containing some text.

There is a standard layout in V2011 called "A4 Despatch Note" the filename is DELNEWA4.layout you can find it via Customers>Sales Orders>Despatch

This prints a Despatch note with the comment lines.

I suggest you use this report as a guide to altering yours or alter it to match your design.

Thanks. We only have Sage 2010 (sorry should have said, I forgot 2011 is out) so I don't have the template to look at.

1/ If I try and add the comment lines I don't have the SOP_ITEM table, so I have to add that and then I always get everything printed twice.

2/ If I try and add an extra footer (or 2 for both comments) then I still get everything printed twice but the comments only once.

I expect I've done some basic error somewhere. Would the 2011 report work on 2010 as if I had that I'm sure I could fingure it out.

what is the file you are editing?

You need to be editing the Despatch/Delivery note NOT the GDN Layout

OK I've found it. I admit I didn't look, when you said 2011 I just presumed it was new to 2011. I didn't create our current template and it looks like the person that did used the GDN layout
