Reports running so slow

Post by nickharr » 01 Sep 2010, 11:54

Hi - not sure if anyone knows why this should be the case but a number of our reports run extremely slowly. In the invoice reports - "Product Profit by Customer - summary" - we condensed the criteria to one account and gave the dates from 1st January 2010 to present. This customer would have had at most three invoices so we cannot understand why it takes so long - 15 minutes and it still is running. We have noticed that a number of reports run slowly. Is there anything anyone could suggest to make them run quicker?

The reason is that Sage does not have a "great" database back end as a result the way that it prepares the report is to trawl through all the data in the database.

You can improve performance by running this report on the machine that acts as server, this also helps clogging the network with huge amounts of data.

Particularly poor performance can be expected if you are running on an old "fast ethernet" network rather than a modern gigabit network. same goes if you are using wifi or any other slow networking technology.

Short term - Upgrade your network, run on the local machine

Longer term ask sage to fix the database problem, they have got something in development with a little more user encouragement we might see it sooner rather than later.

Here is the sage feedback url ask them to improve the database performance of Sage 50 ... http://www.sage.co.uk/contact_us/request_a_feature.aspx
