Hi folks,
System info. Windows XP service pack 3. Sage Line 50 v10. C:\ program files\sage etc. Sole user of the computer and program, logged on as the Manager at installation. DVD/CD-RW works fine in all other programs.
When trying to backup to D: drive I get an error message - "don't recognise CD ROM, ensure drive door is closed and a valid disc is in the drive. This is an intermittent fault, occasionally I get you don't have access to this file speak to an administrator, now and again it works correctly.
I can restore from the same disc that I couldn't previously backup to, when I've backed up to a usb memory stick then transferred the backup to a disc. I've only recently been getting this problem, but my accountant has always complained he can't get the information off the disc backups I've provided in the past.
When I recently tried to restore from discs I'd given him in the past I couldn't access the data either.
I read in previous post that it would be better not to have the Sage program in Program files. I tried to install from my original disc, the program outside program files but I get the error message don't recognise serial No. when I enter the serial No. and Activation key from the Tools menu. Drag and drop doesn't seem to be an option as I get a warning the program won't work.
I would be grateful for any assistance

Re: sage line 50 backing up to D drive problem
I can't think why installing the programme other than in the default location would help, to be honest. Backing up to CD "on the fly" has only ever been the favoured approach of those who like living dangerously!
I'd suggest backing up to somewhere like My Documents\Sagebackuups and then copying the file to your USB using windows explorer or using "proper" CD writing software like Nero to write to your CD. Later versions of the programme add the timestamp to the file name so you don't (unless you work hard at it) accidentally overwrite old backups.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the response. Mistakenly I assumed the sage program would do what it's supposed to. I should have known better.

It does, but it relies upon the Windows operating system to do what it should. That's where it all falls down.carlos fandango wrote:I assumed the sage program would do what it's supposed to.

Working with what's possible and proven beats relying on marketing claims every time
