SAGE 50 ACCOUNTING NETWORK SETUP!!

Post by foggygolf30 » 02 Dec 2008, 09:38

WE HAVE SAGE 50 ACCOUNTS 2008 RUNNING ON 1 PC AND I AM TRYING TO CONNECT A 2ND PC TO IT (WHICH WE HAVE THE LICENCE FOR AND HAVE HAD RUNNING ONCE BEFORE FROM DIFFERENT PC'S). I HAVE INSTALLED A FRESH COPY OF SAGE ON THE 2ND PC AND HAVE IT ON THE NETWORK.

THE ACCDATA FOLDER ON THE MAIN PC IS AS FOLLOWS C:/DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS/ALL USERS/APPLICATION DATA(WHICH WAS A HIDDEN FILE)/SAGE/ACCOUNTS/2008/COMPANY.000/ACCDATA

IF I TRY AND MAP A NETWORK DRIVE TO ANY OF THE ABOVE FOLDERS I GET AN ACCESS IS DENIED MESSAGE, YET IF I TRY AND MAP A NETWORK DRIVE TO ANY OTHER FOLDER THAT WASN'T A HIDDEN FOLDER IT WORKS?

ALL PERMISSIONS ARE SET CORRECTLY FROM WHAT I CAN SEE AND I EVEN TURNED THE FIREWALL OFF IN CASE THAT WAS THE PROBLEM BUT STILL NOTHING!

I HOPE THE ABOVE MAKES SENSE? IF ANYBODY CAN HELP IT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED AS I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING AND AM GETTING DESPERATE.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY REPLIES!

Move (or copy) the data (the folder called company.000) to a location you can share (maybe even to another PC or your file server).

Edit the company file on each client PC to point to that new location. the file contains one line of text. You do not have to use a mapped driver, you can use UNC names \\MachineName\ShareNaname\Optional\Directories\SageFolder\Company.001 however a few people have had performance issues doing this.

The company file has not got an extension, however it contains plain text and can be edited with notepad.

You will find the company file in the folder

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sage\Accounts\2008

Apologies for the question but just doubling checking before i do it!

Yes, assuming you have multiple user licensing.
