Sage 50 Accounts back up and restore

Post by Ting Ting » 19 Jul 2008, 10:41

Please can someone help! I am thinking of leaving the country!

I have just started my bookkeeping business and have messed up on my first job! I am currently using Sage 50 accounts 2008 v14.00. (25 clients can be used on it)

Basically, i backed up the clients sage and restored it onto my sage at home without looking at what version the client had.......i know, i know.....i'm obviosly brain dead!

Did the work and was feeling pleased with myself but yesterday when i went to restore the updated sage back onto the clients, it gave me an error message (sorry i didn't get exactly what it said as it was a long message with loads of numbers and letters in it).

Then, when i tried to open the clients Sage, it was like i was installing it for the first time. So i went through the install wizard bit (that's all it would let me do) and it said that it can only work on certain versions of Sage.

So i take it by this that he is on an old version (he doesn't know which) and i can't put the Sage back on his now??????

Is there anything i can do? He is left with no Sage now and i don't know what to do? Sage helpline is closed.

HELP......i am starting to panick!

I guess i have just come accross my answer by browsing over old topics on here........you can restore to a newer version but not go back!

So where does this leave me? If my client can't find his original disc does that means he has lost everything? If he has it at least i can restore his original data as i have a back up.

Can i install my disc onto his pc? I have a 25 user licence?

Any other ideas......please help!

There is no 25 user licence for sage 50.

Maybe you mean 25 companies!

No you can't give company licences to other people.

There are 2 options. Either your client buys an upgrade to the latest version so they can restore your backup.

Or

You get someone ,like me to convert the data back to V?? (you didn't say)

Do you have your backup you took away from the client?

You could restore that and get the client back to where he was.

When you restored data from the client to your newer installation you should have got a warning.

Sorry, i mean 25 companies!

Yes i took a back up of the clients original data. How do i restore this as i have tried and it wouldn't restore. Is it something to do with the accdata?

I am not sure what v my client is on.

I don't remeber a warning when i restored the clients data onto mine.

Perhaps then something else has happened.

Go to the clients PC and open Sage, go to help>about.

This should tel you the version number.

To restore the original back go File>Restore and then navigate to the location of the original backup you took.

When i open the clients sage it takes me directly to the active set up wizard as i have tried to install my later v onto his.
If i go through the set up and try to restore the original data it sends up an error message about v of sage?

You have made a bit of a mess then.

Uninstall Sage

Reinstall the original copy

Restore your data
