Sage Line 50 V11 - How to retrieve data?

Post by sillymoo » 02 Jul 2008, 09:33

 I HAVE HAD A REAL NIGHTMARE!!!

Firstly, my laptop was damaged at the weekend but, I have been able to retrieve the hard drive (put it in a case to use as an external drive).

The problem is I tried to open up the accounts through the external hard drive using my pc & XP that I used to do the accounts on. It seems there is still data in the pc as it is showing the last data as Jan 2007. :? Is there anyway of finding the latest data (last accessed 28th June 2008).

I did do a back up to my kingston data traveler usb flash drive (normally works!!!) but something has gone wrong (since going to local computer repair man who downloaded some data from aforementioned laptop hard drive) and it keeps telling me that it is not formatted!!!! All data has been wiped!

Can anyone tell me how to retrieve the last known data please?

I would be so grateful!!! :D

It should be possible to copy data from your old laptop hard drive to your PC.

What version of Sage 50 are you running?

Thanks for your reply - I'm using V11.

What files do I need to copy across?

I can see in ACCDATA that there are .dta files would these be the stored files for the more up to date entries? There's some files - e.g INOICE.dta and INVITM.dta dated towards end of June when last used!

As I said before I am able to open Sage through the external (laptop) hard drive but am getting an error message:
Failed to create SG50 Launcher
when I press OK it asks for password and logs me in to be greeted with
Error: Failed to create SG50 Launcher::Context

The last data showing on the screen is for January 2007 (the last time I used this pc to do accounts) I have uninstalled Sage from this pc.

Both PC and laptop run XP

 I think I've cracked it!!!!!

I reinstalled Sage on pc. Noticed that in ACCDATA there was Jan 07 files (presume that's why that was coming up!)

I deleted the ACCDATA file and copied over the folder from my laptop hard drive!

It seems to be all in order. Is there anything I may have missed tho?

Many Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, It is much appreciated - AT LAST I can breathe a sigh of relief!!!!!! :D

No, that should be okay.

I don't think you needed to reinstall, just copy the accdata folder.

(you could have altered the company file to point at the old data on the external drive or move it to another location which would have been a bit safer as you would not have overwriten or deleted data.

I was advised not to keep external hard drive on for long periods (as case wasn't the correct one for drive because the other caddies tested were not powerful enough) so had to copy across. I did have other back ups though before trying this!

Thanks for your help!!!

Everything seems to be in order except that when I go into customers or suppliers tab and double click on a listing the names/addresses and defaults aren't coming up although their activity is shown. I have to double click and then in customer record find their a/c ref. Is there anything I can do to revert back to double clicking to bring all their details up?

thanks

Are you using a mouse, perhaps the double click is more difficult on this machine.

test it in: control panel>mouse

Hi again

I can double click and get into the record but it doesn't show the customer details or defaults only the activity, graphs etc.

That is probably the problem then,

I suggest you upgrade to a V14 which is Vista compatible.
