Move stock item to fixed asset

Post by ninoc » 24 Jun 2008, 15:35

Hi. How do I move an item I have in stock to fixed assets. eg if I take a stick of RAM from stock and put it into a company PC how do I show this in sage?

Many thanks.

Nino.

If I were to be doing this in our company, I would make the following entries:

Stock - Adjustments Out
Remove the stick of RAM with the description "To company PC - Asset No: xxxx" (or similar).
This will obviously keep your stock levels correct.

Nominals - Journals
Do a journal to remove the stick of RAM from your "stock" nominal and a corresponding journal to move it across to your nominal for computer or IT assets.

Then you will need to depreciate it in the normal way after adding it to the asset register list...

Unless of course, you were to take the view that if you are REPLACING the RAM rather than ADDING it to the PC, it would actually be a "repair or renewal" in which case it could be treated as an overhead ?
