Hi, I came across this site while looking for a answer as to whether it is possible to host Sage Line 50 Accounts on a Linux server.
I',m not a sage expert, and I have never used Sage 50. I have a customer who wants to move from a peer to peer network to a server based on Linux as a central resource.
Can I just setup a couple of network shares on the Linux server to install sage 50, Then the Windows desktop users can connect to these shares, and use sage ?
This should work unless Sage Line 50 actually has components which run on the server, rather than just stored or hosted.
Any advice would be welcome.
Thanks

No problems using a Samba share at all.
Follow instruction for a novell installation.
Not sure if they give them out anymore.
You can just hack the "company" file to have the path to the server with notepad and move the "accdata" directory
Things are in different places depending on the version of line 50 so I can't be much more specific.

Thats excellent news,
I was afraid that I will have to tell them that they would need Microsoft SBS. They have had problems with malware, and would like to reduce their Microsoft footprint where possible. They will need to enable multi access for at least 2 people. I think "Sage 50" not "sage Line 50".is the correct product which would allow this.
They are currently running Instant Accounts plus, and want to go Multi user. Therefore I'm trying to determine whether the multi user version can be hosted on a Linux server, and does not make use of any Microsoft specific components.
Thanks for the advice

Never heard of Sage 50, i think they mean Sage Line 50 which is the next step on the upgrade path from Instant.
If instant meets their needs, you can now get a 2 user version which is less than Line 50.
