Line 50 V5
Line 50 V5
Hi There,
I'm using Line 50 V5 on windows xp - this has been working OK up until we installed a new printer - now I cannot access the layouts - advises me the margins are incorrect and closes with a general protection fault - RepDes16 & SGREP16.dll - I know this is an older version , but it's like an old but favourite pair of shoes and I'm reluctant to stop using it - any help greatly appreciated.

Try reinstalling over the existing installation, that fixes it most of the time.

Same problem!
Hi,
did you ever sort this problem out?
I'm having the same issues, tried:
1) reinstalling
2) removing and reinstalling
3) removing that .dll file and then reinstalling
4) new hard drive, reinstall onto different OS
Still I can't get the report part of it running.
Tried on Vista Home and Windows 2000 Professional, both fail in the same way!
Were there any updates to do with the layouts?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Anthony

I have had V5 run fine on Windows 2000.
I think your problem is different. Did it start after installing a new printer?
You have little hope of getting anything to run on Vista at the moment, it is a nightmare don't even go there.
Have you tried un-installing Line 50, deleting the installation directory and then installing from scratch?
Have you tried running the reports on the demo data.
Have you checked that your printer is worming properly, that it is set up with sensible printer settings and works from other applications?

Tried everything I can think of.
1) Re-installing over the top of the actual failing app
2) Removing everything from the installation directory and then reinstalling
3) Installing Windows 2000 on a different drive (vista drive removed) and then trying the basic install (none of my data)
All of these fail in the same way and the printer works from all other applications.
Just seems like the basic install doesn't work now for some reason!!
Very weird.
Any ideas?

Yes, I have basically done the following:
1) get a different hard drive
2) Install Windows 200 Pro
3) Install Sage
4) Using test data tried to open a layout
Still the same error...completely baffling me at the moment, i've now tried it on:
Windows XP Pro
Windows Vista Home
Windows Vista Business x64 (no chance)
Windows 2000 Professional
Over 3 different machines.
And they all give me the same problem. What the hell am i doing wrong?
Surely things should just work out of the box?

Hi guys
Can I ask a couple of questions?
First of all the printer that you were using originally, has that been installed as long as you have been using V5?
& secondly what version of version 5?, that may sound like a strange question but V5 was one of those releases that had actually 2 releases 1 prior to Windows 2000 being released & 1 after. This would explain why it works on Brian's copy of Windows 2000 but not Chunky's
V5 was what Sage classed as a 16 bit program & as such most modern printers use 32 or 64 bit drivers. If you still have the original printer & could reinstall it then you would be able to printer from V5 however, it is unlikely that you will be able to print from V5 on to a newer printer.

I've had this problem today on a windows xp PC. The printer had been changed and from then on would not print. I have tried all of the above which didn't solve the problem. The only way I see that version 5 can run with a new printer is to install it on a windows 98 install with the printer already installed. Even though win 98 is no longer supported you can see often get printer drivers for new printers. I've tried it and it worked
computerdoc
computerdoc
xp printing
actually using instant accounts 2000 and upgraded to xp.
Did install ok but reports generator does not work.
Default was a canon ip4500, an xp only printer. Tried making a canon ip3000 the default and still did not work. So I guess its the report generator that will not work on newer operating systems.
Back to win 98.
Knew there was a good reason not to upgrade.
Why are all windows systems so crap.
