Line not showing on report once printed

Post by Vita » 10 Apr 2014, 10:39

Hi all (again),

I've created a statement layout to be emailed to customers who choose to receive correspondence electronically. It has a section for the remittance, separated by a line which I drew in using 'Draw Line'. However when this gets printed to PDF the line is incomplete, leaving a big gap around the middle of the page. I've tried bringing the line to front but this doesn't help. It looks quite unprofessional at the moment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you attach the statement layout to a post so I can look at it please?

The problem you have is that the line needs to be in a template not in the report.

The template covers the whole page whereas the layout only covers the printed area.

Attached is a sample PDF showing what I achieve by simply adding a template with the line in it and removing the line from your layout

I don't understand what you mean, what's the different between a template and the layout?

The template is the "background" layout that is overprinted with the text.

If you look at some of the statement layouts you will see the grey background template.

The templates are completely different from the layouts though. I use the layout to run them through. I'm probably missing the point entirely here, I'm by no means fluent with Report Designer so can you please tell me in layman's terms what I need to do to make the line show in the layout.

You can not make a vertical line on the page in the layout, the parts that are not printed will appear with no line as nothing is there.

The only way to do this would be in the template.

Once you have a vertical line in the template you can apply the template to the layout and the end result will be a vertical line in the output.

I have never done anything with a .template file. I don't know how to apply it to a layout, I have only ever run a report and selected the layout. I've tried adding lines to the template files (there's quite a list) but these don't show when I print. I'm sorry but I'm going to need baby steps for this one.

The strange thing is the layout I use for printing hard copies always shows the line, and this was simply inserted into the layout with draw line as I have done for the email version.

That is correct in V2013 the templates do not print, you said you were trying to get these vertical lines on an email.

You will not get a vertical line the entire length of the page when printing. There will be a break where no lines are printed.
