Delayed Write Failed

Post by Binnieman » 20 Aug 2009, 16:08

Hi
Please can you help before I go insane!
Everytime I run "check data" the following message comes up -
Delayed Write Failed Windows was unable to save all the data for the file x.
The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.
We operate a workgroup network with a server and 7 desktops. We have been running fine for over twelve months and all of a sudden this has appeared. I have looked at the microsoft site and checked everything to do with the "cache" and bios settings (altough like I say all has been fine for ages). If I log onto the server and do the check data it runs fine so in my mind the error must be something to do with network connections and or handling large files?
Any guidance would be most welcome
Thanks in advance
Kev

Sounds like the you do not have full access rights to the data path.

Check your windows permissions.

Hi
Appreciate what you are saying but there are no differences in any of the settings compared to when the system was set up and like I said it has been running fine for over twelve months?

Is there a particular permission setting you have in mind that maybe I am missing?

Thanks

if you run check data from the pc that holds the data you will not get the issue. its a network issue.

Thanks for the link Niceguyedy. Unfortunately the problem still exsists. I have tried all of the recomendations except the one where it tells you to make sure that the Bios settings are not configured to force faster UDMA settings, simply because I cannot find the UDMA settings in the Bios on my laptop nor on the other desktop PC that are in the workgroup.
The problem only arises when lare amounts of data are trying to be saved or moved from the server. If I carry out any of the tasks that fail on a networked PC direct on the server the task completes fine.
Anyone who has any more ideas would be truly welcomed.
Many thanks

It could be a hardware fault, a card that fails to read properly for example, however, I would expect lots of issues and data corruption.

Which files are affected?

Can you read/write to those files normally?

Sage writes data to all sorts of places, given the chance, try logging in as an administrator with full permissions to the whole machine and see if the problem can still be reproduced.
