Change of Inventory Unit & Price

Post by moon » 27 Mar 2012, 05:34

Hi,
In the opening inventory, while we shifted to sage, the inventory of coil was entered in tons.
However, now we want to change it to kilograms. Please tell how we can do it?

Proposed solution with a problem:
We can increase the inventory level with a change in unit. How we will handle the costing? I mean if there is one ton @ 500 then we will add 999 to inventory level (to make it 1000 Kg), change the unit to Kg (before its in tons) but what shall we do with the price of stock? if we enter it as zero, it doesn't show right costing of projects either in FIFO or average costing report.

Method 1

Create a new product code for it in tonnes.
Transfer the stock out on kilo code and in on the tonnes code divide/multiply by 1000
Mark all the old codes as obsolete and hide them with a search until year end when you clear stock and can delete them.

Method2

Adjust all the stock out divide/multiply by 1000 and Adjust back in

This has the disadvantage that you will not know if things were sold in KG or tonnes historically, things will be very ambiguous.

Method3

Hire me to alter every qty, cost and sales price in the invoices/sales order/purchase order/ and stock transactions and have the best of both.
